2024 ESOL CONFERENCE PROPOSALS CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Call for Submissions: TESOL Conference 2024

Conference Theme: "Inside the Language Nest: A Home Away from Home"
The term "language nest" is a translation of the Māori phrase kōhanga reo. In a language nest, older speakers of the language take part in the education of children through intergenerational language, culture and history sharing and transfer. The older fluent speakers act as mentors and help children use the target language in many different settings. The quality of these cultural immersion programs helps in aiding the development of linguistic and cultural competence for children.

We are excited to invite submissions for the KSU ESOL Conference 2024, centered around the theme: "Inside the Language Nest: A Home Away from Home". This theme highlights the nurturing environment created for language learners as they balance the acquisition of English with the preservation of their native languages and cultures. This year’s conference has a strong emphasis on pedagogies or programs that implement language in various settings that serve language learners including but not limited to dual language immersion (DLI), bilingual education, and sheltered education settings.

Join us in exploring the dynamic interplay of language, culture, and education within the nurturing environment of 'The Language Nest'. Your contributions are vital in shaping a holistic and transformative ESOL teaching and learning experience.

Call for Presentations

Call for Presentations This year, there are three options for sharing your presentation. Each option is described below. Please indicate your preference for a type of presentation by numbering the list provided. In prior years, individual teachers presented their approaches to instruction. Due to limited space for the entire conference, we are consolidating individual teacher presentations into poster sessions, panel presentations or workshop presentations. Please note that the conference organizers will determine which submissions will be posters, presentations, or workshops due to space considerations.  Descriptions are below:

Panel presentationsPanel presentations: Panel presentations are groups of three (3) teachers sharing and discussing various aspects of EL pedagogy and practice. We encourage proposals that include unique perspectives, practical strategies, and innovative approaches. The conference organizers will group individual submissions into similar panels. Panels are 50 minute sessions. Each panelist has approximately 15 minutes to present. Panel discussions will be moderated by a facilitator.

Workshop presentationsWorkshop presentations: Workshops are hands-on sessions for educators to share innovative teaching strategies and classroom experiences with “make-and-take” outcomes for learners. We encourage submissions that are interactive and engaging, and that can be applied in a variety of educational contexts. Sessions are 50-minutes in length.

Poster sessions: Poster are visual displays that show effective educational strategies. Poster sessions provide an opportunity for individual presenters to display and discuss their work with conference attendees in an informal, interactive environment. A template and instructions are provided below.
