What is ESOL
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is a state-funded language instructional program for eligible English learners in grades K-12. The ESOL curriculum is standards based and emphasizes academic and social language development while simultaneously assisting students to meet the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). In Georgia, ESOL eligibility is determined by English Learner (EL) screener (K-WAPT or WIDA Online Screener) and the annual WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 language assessment, which also measures language development and progress. The WIDA assessments are developed by the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment WIDA Consortium (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment).
